A little white lie doesn’t hurt, usually. Wihtin director Asmae El Moudir’s family more lies were told than truths. In the vibrant neighbourhood in Casablanca where Asmae grew up, her  grandmother ruled the house: the past was unspoken of and there were no pictures.

In attempt to unravel this unspoken past, Asmae built a maquette of her neighbourhood. Together with family and old neighbors she reconstructs, in an unorthodox manner, the painfully personal and shared history of Casablanca. Daring and creative The Mother of All Lies won two awards at the Filmfestival Cannes and it was the Maroccan submission for the Oscars.
